Fort Lancaster State Historic Site

Fort Lancaster played an important role in the westward expansion of the mid-1800s. Stop by the visitor center to explore the fort’s history, then wander through the remains of 30 buildings, including a hospital, bakery and blacksmith shop. The fort also hosted its own camel corps!

Pugh River Park

Pugh Park (also known as “the river park in Christoval”) features 600 feet of river frontage along the spring-fed South Concho River. Wade or swim in the emerald-green water, or leap, Tarzan-style, from one of the many rope swings hanging from trees along the bank.

Davis Mountains State Park

A West Texas destination for all sorts of adventures, Davis Mountains State Park is a great place to go hiking and biking, or to go birding at the park’s self-described “best little bird blind in Texas.” The park is home to more than 260 species of birds, including several species of concern.
