STATE PARK ADVENTURES
BIKING THE BEND
Whoosh. Pedal. Turn. Hold on! Mountain biking at Colorado Bend State Park provides some huffs and puffs, some ups and downs, some twists and turns, some thrills and (hope not) spills in a scenic little corner of the Hill Country.
Bikers can find 35 miles of trails at the park, ranging from the relatively easy 3.4-mile River Trail to the very challenging 2.8-mile Tinaja Trail. The majority of the trails are single-track, and trail difficulties can fit a variety of riding styles and experience levels. The trails wind through oak-cedar forest with tree roots, elevation changes and lots of limestone rocks to present challenges. The river, canyons and limestone bluffs provide the backdrop to adventure at the park, located above Lake Buchanan, the uppermost in the chain of Highland Lakes.
If you seek a destination, ride a trail to a waterfall, a scenic overlook or a spring-fed creek. If you want to rack up some miles, cruise through the park’s upland savannahs, rolling hills and cedar brakes.
Choose your own adventure at Colorado Bend.
