WHERE IN TEXAS?

This Spanish mission was established in 1754 between San Antonio and the coast in an attempt to make peace with the Karankawa tribe. It became the center of a large livestock operation and closed for good in 1792. A stone foundation marks the outline of the building at this TPWD state historic site, which in recent years has received improved access and new interpretive panels.

If you recognize this site, send us a note at Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine, 4200 Smith School Road, Austin, TX 78744 (write “Where in Texas?” on the envelope); email us at magazine@tpwd.texas.gov; or let us know on Facebook. We’ll reveal the answer in a future issue.
