Cedar Hill State Park

THE TWISTS AND TURNS and climbs and descents of the 12-mile DORBA (Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association) Trail at Cedar Hill State Park are considered some of the state’s best. No surprise there; the trails were designed by mountain bikers, for mountain bikers. The park’s location, just 20 minutes from downtown Dallas, makes it super-convenient for DFW-area riders. Ride the trails clockwise; hikers do the opposite.

Tyler State Park

More than 10 miles of well-marked, varied trails through serene pine forests offer plenty of climbs and descents at this East Texas park.

Ray Roberts Lake State Park

Bike nearly 20 miles through the shady woods along the park’s beloved Greenbelt Corridor, which parallels the Elm Fork Branch of the Trinity River. The park’s other units feature almost 60 more miles of multiuse trails.

Lake Mineral Wells State Park

A 20-mile stretch of reclaimed railroad bed is now the Lake Mineral Wells Trailway, a gently curving, relatively flat trail connecting Weatherford and Mineral Wells.

Government Canyon State Natural Area

Ride the frontcountry trails at this mountain biking haven on the northwest side of San Antonio for a warm-up ride, then take to the backcountry for a rocky challenge.
