CAST A LINE  from the shore, from a boat or off the 1,620-foot pier. This coastal park features spotted seatrout, black and red drum, sheepshead, gafftops and sharks. If you’re bringing along some extra anglers, the park participates in the state’s Tackle Loaner Program, providing rentals of rods, reels and tackle boxes.

Martin Creek Lake State Park

Warmed by a nearby power plant, this lake is great for some winter and early spring largemouth bass action. Channel and blue catfish are plentiful year-round, and kids can catch sunfish.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park

Fish for crappie from two lighted piers, including one that’s 400 feet long and wheelchair accessible. The 20,000-acre lake has lots of 5-pound largemouth bass.

Purtis Creek State Park

In the late summer, when your luck dries up elsewhere, try fishing for largemouth bass and channel catfish off the west fishing pier at Purtis Creek.

Possum Kingdom State Park

Possum Kingdom’s 20,000-acre lake is home to white, largemouth and striped bass. Anglers can also hook a crappie, catfish or sunfish while enjoying a day out on the cliff-lined lake.
