WHERE IN TEXAS?
Each of this year’s Where in Texas? photos features a picnic shelter at a state park. Can you guess the park? For a centennial stumper, we’ve chosen a picnic shelter that is no longer around (you had to be there). These mod structures once cut a surreal silhouette near a beach. A few years back, a natural disaster put an end to the stylish concrete creations.
The main sign of the park, though, still matches the old shelters’ aesthetic. You can view the answer at the bottom of the page. If you remember picnicking in these old-school shelters, write us at: Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine, 4200 Smith School Road, Austin, TX 78744 (write “Where in Texas?” on the envelope); email us at magazine@tpwd.texas.gov; or let us know on Facebook.

Answer: These picnic shelters could be found at Galveston Island State Park until 2008’s Hurricane Ike ravaged the Texas coast.
