A woman rides her horse along the Limipia Creek Vista trail at Davis Mountains

Trek to Limpia Creek Vista

Open to hikers, bikers and horseback riders, this 11-mile round-trip adventure ascends 700 feet to the highest point in the park. To celebrate making it to the top, visitors will find a trail log at the overlook where numerous people have signed their names, written poetry, left encouraging messages and drawn pictures. For hikers, this trip is a five- to six-hour endeavor, so pack accordingly.

Attend a ranger program

Learn about the volcanic history of the park, the animals you may encounter, the area’s human history, or sharpen your adventure skills on a ranger-led survival hike. Check the park website in advance and stop by the Interpretive Center when you arrive for up-to-date activity information.

Relax at the group picnic area

Located just past campsite 61, a picnic area offers a place for you to bring a snack, a book and binoculars to sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of Davis Mountains. Many visitors have reported seeing Montezuma quail in this area, a highly localized and elusive species on the bucket list for many birders.

Tour Indian Lodge (reopening 2024)

Visitors do not need to stay at the lodge to enjoy the historic building, crafted by the CCC in 1935 using centuries-old adobe techniques. Some of the original hand-carved cedar furniture is still used today. Remember to take in view from the balcony overlooking the pool.
