Half Day Adventures
Only in the area for a few hours? No problem! Check out these activities to make it the best (half) day ever.
Visit the CCC lookout shelter
Visitors can feel transported back to the 1930s when the CCC built many of the park’s structures, including this overlook building. The shelter offers shade, a place to rest and a giant picture window that frames stunning scenery.
Stop by the Interpretive Center
Learn more about Davis Mountains from both the staff and displays. The building is full of interpretive panels detailing park history and wildlife, with some animal skulls and other artifacts on display. Outside is a bird blind that attracts many West Texas species. Speakers bring the bird song inside the center.
Hike to Keesey Canyon Overlook
From the Interpretive Center, ascend 544 feet on this 20-minute hike along part of the Skyline Drive Trail. Tip: In the morning, the mountain’s shadow will keep the path cool and shaded almost the entire walk to the overlook.
Have lunch at the Black Bear restaurant (reopening 2024)
Located at Indian Lodge on the western edge of the park, enjoy a delicious meal of southwestern cuisine.
