Live oak cluster
Across the road from the 40-Acre Lake parking lot, a cluster of live oak trees has served as the setting for special photos for years. “It’s a very popular spot for wedding photos, engagement photos, family photos,” ranger Danny Thach says. “There are live oak trees with branches that swoop toward the ground. In the background you have the coastal tallgrass prairie, and at sunset it takes on a golden amber color.”
Baby gators
At the Nature Center, alligator hatchlings, clustered in a big pile, warm themselves in the glow of the light in the tank. Visitors of all ages ooh and ahh over them and find them irresistible. Park volunteers and rangers will often take one out of the tank to show visitors and invite a close look. Get out your camera for a chance to get an alligator closeup.
Observation Tower
The tower at 40-Acre Lake gives visitors an elevated look at the park. Visitors can see 40-Acre Lake, Pilant Lake and all three of the park’s habitats. Ascend the tower for camera-worthy views of sunrises, sunsets, marshes, lakes and woodlands and all the nature that makes Brazos Bend special.
