Palo Duro Canyon is home to two iconic landmarks. One is the Lighthouse, the most famous rock formation in the park, and possibly in Texas. The other is the outdoor musical TEXAS, which has entertained Texans for nearly 60 years.

Moss Creek Lake

Originally constructed as a surface water source in 1938, Big Spring’s Moss Creek Lake now offers 400 acres for recreational use, including a playground, dirt-bike course and beach swimming area.

Storybook Statues
Abilene claims the title of the Storybook Capital of America and has the bona fides to back it up. Walk through downtown and you’ll discover storybook sculptures including characters from Doctor Seuss, E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web, William Joyce’s Guardians of Childhood and more.

Charles and Mary Ann Goodnight Ranch
Charles Goodnight co-founded the first cattle ranch in the Texas Panhandle. His wife, Mary Ann, helped run the ranch and preserve American bison — bison whose direct descendants graze near the ranch today and form the Official State of Texas Bison Herd.

Lubbock Prairie Dog Town
Lubbock’s 200-acre Mackenzie Park has a golf course, dog park and an amphitheater, but the most unique feature in the park is its prairie dog
town — a great place to see the critters up close.
