An album as untamed as Texas is now available online and at Texas state park stores across the state.
As part of the 100-year celebration of Texas State Parks, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation (TPWF) has created Texas Wild — an album featuring Texas musicians as they pay tribute to beloved Texas tunes that showcase the untamed spirit of the state’s music.
Produced by Texas singer/songwriter Walker Lukens in partnership with Rambler Sparkling Water and Tecovas, Texas Wild blends the sounds of traditional Texas genres like blues, cumbia and country with modern sounds like hip-hop, R&B and electronica, sure to please old-school country fans and new listeners alike.
There’s something for every Texas music lover’s taste — including Ryan Bingham covering the Toadies’ Possum Kingdom, Fat Tony featuring Paul Wall covering the Texas Tornados’ (Hey Baby) Que Paso and Shane Smith & The Saints teaming up with Hayes Carll to cover Pancho and Lefty.
“Texas Wild is an album that encompasses that wild, untamed spirit for which Texas is best known. Incredible artists from across the state have come together to put their unique stamp on Texas classics, resulting in an exciting playlist that music fans will want to play on repeat,” says TPWF Executive Director Anne Brown. “We’re thankful for the many talented artists who made this extraordinary album possible.”
In addition to digital downloads, the limited-edition vinyl album can be purchased online or at select record stores, and a special-edition vinyl is also available at Texas State Parks stores across the state.
“Texas Wild is the perfect holiday gift for music lovers who appreciate the wild things, wild places and wild talent of our state,” says Texas State Parks Director Rodney Franklin. “It’s fitting to close out our centennial celebration by offering a special edition of the album only available in our park stores.”
Texas illustrator Mishka Westell created unique block print style art for each of three single releases and the album cover art, which features Texas native wildlife, including a screech owl, mockingbird and other Texas critters.
Sales from the album will benefit TPWF.
