Explore Texas’ first new state park in decades! Located 75 miles west of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Palo Pinto Mountains State Park officially opened in April. Be among the first to explore 16 miles of multiuse trails, swim in Tucker Lake or look for the endangered golden-cheeked warbler.

The Landmark on Lee Street

Serving at various times as a post office, IRS office and Army recruitment center, the old Greenville Post Office, now known as the Landmark on Lee Street, is best known for being the site where World War II hero Audie Murphy enlisted in the Army. Today the building is used as an events center, hosting weddings, reunions and other events.

Balcones Trail

The Balcones Trail is a four-mile paved path that connects three fantastic nature sites in Cedar Hill. Beginning just north of Cedar Hill State Park, the trail runs alongside the Cedar Mountain Preserve and ends just south of the Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center. Keep your eyes out for wildflowers and wildlife as you walk, run or bike your way along the trail.

Snap a selfie from either of the trail’s observation towers. You’ll find them located just north of Dogwood Canyon and just north of Cedar Hill State Park.

Fort Worth Stockyards

Giddy on up to the Fort Worth Stockyards and experience a real Texas cattle drive. Every day at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., a parade of Texas longhorns march down the streets of Fort Worth as a tribute to Texas’ cowboy legacy.

Fort Griffin

Fort Griffin is one of a series of defensive forts across the Southern Plains. Standing as a monument to the frontier experience, the site features interpretive exhibits including a mess hall, barracks and bakery. It’s also home to the official State of Texas Longhorn Herd.

White Rock Lake

Located five miles northeast of downtown Dallas, White Rock Lake is one of the best places to experience nature in the Metroplex. With more than 1,000 acres to picnic, paddle and play, the lake is a great place to see wildlife, including a naturalized colony of introduced monk parakeets. Bring your binoculars!
