BOATER SAFETY

Jackets On for National Safe Boating Week

For nearly 100 million Americans, boating continues to be a popular recreational activity. To beat the scorching and seemingly endless heat of summer, Texans take to the water to boat, sail, paddle and fish. During National Safe Boating Week (May 22-28), all boaters are encouraged to explore and enjoy our refreshing waters responsibly.

Safe boating begins with preparation. Life jackets could prevent nearly 86 percent of boating fatalities. Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day is May 21.

Through basic safety procedures — carrying lifesaving emergency distress and communications equipment, wearing life jackets, attending safe boating courses, participating in free boat safety checks and staying sober — boaters can stay safe. Follow @texasboatingandwatersafety on Instagram.
